How to Password Protect a Google Sheet: Unlock the sheet with a password

By default, we do not have such an option to encrypt the data, but thanks to Skipser, who has made it possible. Let us see how.

1. Open this ProtectedSheet, and make a copy of it. File – Make a copy.

2. Now select Tools – Script Editor. This will bring up a script in a new window or tab.

Note: By default, you won’t be able to see any encryption option in Google Spreadsheets. The menu will look like the image below. This adds a code in the script editor and allows one more menu to get added, to encrypt Google spreadsheets and make password-protected files. While making a copy of the Google Protected Sheet, you are going to be the owner of it.
